Frequently Asked Questions
How does GradePlate grade food?
When you take a photo in Meal, Menu, or Shelf mode, GradePlate uses AI to estimate an A–F nutrition grade with macros and concern flags. Grades and the "GradePlate says" verdict are informational only: they are not medical, dietary, or nutritional advice, and you should consult a qualified healthcare provider before changing your diet.
Is my health profile private?
GradePlate is anonymous by default: no name, email, or phone number is required, and your health profile (allergies, activity level, dietary goals) and scan history are stored on your device. Relevant preferences may be sent with an analysis when you enable health-data processing. Optional Apple, Google, or email sign-in creates a stable account identity, but your profile and history remain local. See the privacy policy for the full details.
How do I delete my account and data?
In GradePlate, open Me > Data & Privacy > Delete Account & Data. You can also use our account deletion page for details or to email a request if you cannot use the app. The in-app flow removes the current account identity, user-linked reports, and local GradePlate data. It does not cancel an Apple or Google subscription.
Does GradePlate work offline?
Partially. Products you've already scanned are cached, so your history and their grades stay available without a connection. Grading a new product and Menu Mode need an internet connection, since the scoring runs on our servers.
Any tips for Menu Mode?
Photograph the menu page flat, well lit, and free of glare, and include the full dish names and descriptions in the frame, that's what the grading works from. Every dish on the page gets a grade, and the strongest option is called out as the Best Pick. Menu reading relies on text recognition, so a sharp, straight-on photo gives the best results.
The scanner won't open or the camera is black
GradePlate needs camera permission when you choose to take a Meal, Menu, or Shelf photo. It does not analyze the camera in the background. On iPhone and iPad, check Settings > Privacy & Security > Cameraand make sure GradePlate is allowed. If the camera still won't start, force-quit the app and reopen it.
A grade looks wrong. How do I report it?
Email us at [email protected] with the food or dish name and, if helpful, a photo of the label. You can also use the report action on a result. AI-generated grades are estimates and can be wrong, so reports genuinely help us investigate them.
