GradePlate Privacy Policy

Effective February 7, 2026 · Last updated August 9, 2026

LightPath Apps LLC ("LightPath," "we," "us," or "our") provides GradePlate, a food and nutrition app that analyzes user-selected photos and returns estimated nutrition information and A–F grades. This policy explains the data GradePlate processes, why it is processed, and your choices.

GradePlate provides general educational information. It is not a medical device and does not provide medical advice, diagnosis, or treatment.

1. Data GradePlate processes

Photos you choose to analyze

GradePlate accesses the camera or system photo picker only after you choose to capture or select an image. The current release has three user-initiated modes: Meal, Menu, and Shelf. Menu mode may also perform on-device text recognition before analysis.

GradePlate compresses the selected image and sends it to a Google AI service to provide the requested result. There is no background or continuous camera analysis, and the current release does not perform barcode scanning. LightPath does not retain the source image in its cloud storage. A thumbnail may be stored locally with your recent history. Google processes the submitted image and prompt on our behalf under its service terms and data-processing commitments.

Optional health and preference information

You may provide age or date of birth, biological sex, height, weight, activity level, nutrition goals, health conditions, dietary preferences, and allergens. GradePlate stores these profile values locally and uses them to calculate local targets and personalize results. When you enable health-data processing, relevant goals, conditions, preferences, and allergens may be included in the request sent to the Google AI service. You can use GradePlate without a complete health profile.

Account and identity information

GradePlate creates a random anonymous account identifier by default; a name, email, or phone number is not required for basic use. If you voluntarily link Sign in with Apple, Google Sign-In, or email and password, the account service may retain the name, email, provider identifier, or profile image supplied by that provider. Sign-in providers may also process limited account, device, security, and diagnostic information to provide and protect authentication. GradePlate uses its account identifier so Premium access can follow the account and purchases can be restored.

Results, history, and shared caches

  • Recent analyses, thumbnails, meal logs, and your nutrition profile are normally stored locally.
  • Product names and generated nutrition results may be cached by our service without the source photo so the same food can load faster for other users. Shared cache records are not maintained as a personal scan history.
  • Search text and a selected health goal may be sent to the Google AI service when a local or cached food search cannot answer the request.

Reports you choose to submit

If you report an inaccurate or inappropriate result, GradePlate sends the product name, selected reason, optional details, app version, timestamp, and account identifier to our service. We use reports to investigate and improve result quality. Reports linked to the current account identifier are included in the in-app account-deletion flow.

Purchases and subscription information

Apple or Google processes payment information; GradePlate does not receive your full payment-card number. Our subscription-management provider receives store transaction, product, entitlement, account identifier, and related device or service information needed to offer Premium, validate access, prevent fraud, and restore purchases.

Optional analytics, crash, and performance data

Optional analytics, crash reporting, and performance monitoring are disabled by default. If you opt in, these services may collect app interactions, session and feature events, device and operating-system information, app version, crash diagnostics, and performance measurements. You can change these choices in Me > Data & Privacy. TestFlight, internal-test, and debug builds may send additional diagnostic logs to our service; that logging is disabled in public store production builds.

Operational infrastructure that GradePlate needs even without optional telemetry may process app and device identifiers, app and OS details, coarse regional settings, and limited service diagnostic metadata to authenticate requests, protect the service, deliver configuration, and maintain reliability. This operational processing is not used for advertising or cross-app tracking.

2. How we use data

We use data to:

  • authenticate the app and protect the service;
  • provide photo, menu, food-search, and personalized nutrition results;
  • maintain local history, meal logs, and nutrition targets;
  • cache non-photo food results for speed and consistency;
  • operate Premium purchases and restore access;
  • investigate reports, crashes, and service failures; and
  • improve reliability and usability when you consent to analytics or diagnostics.

We do not sell personal information. GradePlate contains no third-party advertising SDK and does not use GradePlate data for targeted advertising.

3. Service providers

  • AI processing: a Google AI service analyzes only the content you choose to submit for a result.
  • App infrastructure: service providers support accounts, security, configuration, shared result caches, and optional diagnostics.
  • Subscription administration: a service provider validates purchases, maintains entitlement status, and supports restoration.
  • Apple and Google: app distribution, payments, refunds, and subscription management.

These providers process data under their own terms and privacy commitments. We may also disclose information when required by law or needed to protect users, the service, or legal rights.

4. Storage, retention, and security

GradePlate uses encryption in transit and access controls. No system is perfectly secure, but we use reasonable measures appropriate to the data processed. Local history remains until you remove it, delete the account and data, clear the app's data, or uninstall. Account authentication records remain until the associated account is deleted. Shared food-score caches may remain because they are not personal history. Reports and support correspondence are retained only as long as reasonably needed to investigate an issue, protect the service, or meet legal obligations. App stores and service providers may retain transaction or entitlement records for purchases, restores, fraud prevention, accounting, or law.

5. Your choices and deletion

  • Camera and photos: do not capture or select an image if you do not want it processed by the AI service.
  • Health processing: optional and controllable in Data & Privacy.
  • Analytics and diagnostics: opt-in and can be disabled at any time.
  • Delete Account & Data: open Me > Data & Privacy > Delete Account & Data. GradePlate deletes the current account record, user-linked reports, authentication identity, legacy generated-avatar files under that identifier, and local history, thumbnails, meal-log data, profile preferences, consent choices, and caches. It then creates a fresh anonymous identity so the app can continue to open.

Deleting a GradePlate account does not cancel a store subscription. Manage or cancel it separately in Apple or Google subscription settings. Store and subscription-service transaction records may remain where needed for purchase restoration, fraud prevention, accounting, or legal obligations.

If you cannot use the in-app deletion flow, visit the account-deletion page or email [email protected]. We may need information sufficient to verify and locate the account. We respond as required by applicable law.

6. International privacy rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a portable copy of personal data, withdraw consent, and complain to a privacy regulator. We do not sell or share personal information for cross-context behavioral advertising. Contact us to exercise applicable rights.

7. Children

GradePlate is not directed to children under 13, and the store listing is intended for adults. We do not knowingly collect personal information from a child under 13. Contact us if you believe a child has provided personal information so we can investigate and delete it.

8. Changes

We may update this policy as GradePlate or applicable requirements change. The date above identifies the latest version. Material changes will be communicated as required by law.
