Make a face, take the photo, share the laugh. Here is how to get unstuck.

Using GoofCam

How do I take a GoofCam photo?

Allow camera access, then pick a look from Featured, choose a lens by category, or add a camera effect and set its intensity. Many lenses react to your face: the hint on screen tells you whether to open your mouth, smile, wink or shake your head. Tap the shutter, or turn on the 3-second timer first. Your photo opens in a review screen where you can remix it with another lens, add a frame, then save it, share it, or go back for another. Surprise Me picks a curated look for you, Undo returns to the previous one, and Reset clears the lens and effect.

Does GoofCam record video?

No. GoofCam takes still photos only. The camera preview is animated, but what you save or share is a photo.

The lens is not following my face. What can I do?

Face tracking works best with your whole face in the frame, facing the camera, in even light. Move toward a window or lamp so your face is lit from the front rather than from behind, hold the phone about an arm's length away, and keep hair, hands, or a large hat away from your eyes and mouth. Strong side lighting, very dim rooms, and faces turned far to the side are the most common reasons a lens drops or jumps. If a reaction does not trigger, exaggerate it a little: open your mouth wider or hold a smile.

Camera and photo permissions

I said no to the camera. How do I turn it back on?

iPhone and iPad: tap Settings on the GoofCam camera screen, or open the Settings app, go to Apps > GoofCam (on older iOS versions, scroll down to GoofCam), and turn on Camera. Return to GoofCam, and tap Retry if the camera does not start.
Android: tap Allow camera. If Android no longer shows the prompt, tap Open app settings, then go to Permissions > Camera and choose Allow only while using the app. Menu names vary slightly between phone makers.

Saving says I need to allow Photos access (iPhone and iPad)

GoofCam asks only to add photos to your library. Open the Settings app, go to Apps > GoofCam > Photos, and choose Add Photos Only or Full Access. Until then you can still use Send to someone to send the picture without saving it.

Why does Android not ask about photos or storage?

GoofCam saves through Android's media storage into its own album, which does not need a photos or storage permission on Android 10 and later. It never reads the rest of your gallery.

Saving, finding and deleting photos

Where do my photos go?

The latest photo stays in app memory so you can reopen it from the camera thumbnail. After you tap Save to Photos, iPhone and iPad add the photo to your Photos library (look in Recents), and Android saves it to the Pictures/GoofCam album in your gallery or Google Photos app. Closing review does not immediately discard the latest photo. GoofCam keeps no persistent gallery of its own, and LightPath never receives your photos.

My saved photo is missing

Check that the review screen said Saved to Photos. On iPhone and iPad, look in Recents and make sure Photos access is allowed for GoofCam. On Android, open the Pictures/GoofCam album; some gallery apps take a moment to show new photos. If saving failed, the photo stays on the review screen so you can try again or share it instead. Low storage is a common cause of a failed save.

How do I delete a photo?

Delete it in the Photos app on iPhone and iPad, or in your gallery or Google Photos app on Android. Uninstalling GoofCam does not delete photos you saved. On Android, sharing also leaves a temporary private copy in GoofCam's cache; copies older than 24 hours are removed the next time you share, and clearing GoofCam's storage in Android Settings removes them immediately.

GoofCam Pro, restoring and refunds

What is GoofCam Pro?

GoofCam is free. GoofCam Pro is one optional one-time purchase that unlocks taking photos with the Pro lenses (six Signature lenses and four expression toys) and using four Pro frames, and removes the small goofcam mark from saved and shared photos. You can try every Pro lens live in the camera before buying. It is not a subscription and never renews, and there are no ads.

How do I restore GoofCam Pro on a new phone or after reinstalling?

Sign in to the same Apple Account or Google account you bought it with, open GoofCam, and open About using the question-mark button, then tap Restore Purchases. The purchase is tied to your store account, not to a GoofCam account (there is none), so a purchase on the App Store does not carry over to Android or the other way round.
