GoofCam Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 28, 2026
Our privacy commitment
GoofCam: Funny Face Filters ("GoofCam") is a camera app by LightPath Apps LLC for iPhone, iPad and Android. Camera frames and face tracking are processed on your device. LightPath does not receive, upload or store your camera images, your photos or your face data, and LightPath runs no server for GoofCam. The app has no account, no advertising, no LightPath analytics and no cross-app tracking.
GoofCam is not publicly available yet. This policy describes the app being tested before release and will be updated if anything described here changes.
Camera and face tracking
GoofCam asks for camera access when you open the camera. Each preview frame is processed in memory on your device to draw the effect you chose. When a face lens is selected, the device finds face landmarks (the position of the eyes, nose and mouth, head tilt, and whether you are smiling, winking or opening your mouth) so the lens can follow your face and react to your expressions.
- Live face landmarks place and animate the effect you choose. When you take a photo, its source image and landmarks are also held in app memory so you can remix it. Face landmarks are not written to saved photo files, uploaded, or used to identify or recognize anyone.
- On iPhone and iPad, face detection uses Apple's built-in Vision framework on the device.
- On Android, face detection uses Google's ML Kit face detection library, which is bundled inside the app and runs on the device. See Google ML Kit on Android below.
GoofCam does not record video or audio and does not request microphone access.
Your photos
When you take a photo, it opens in a review screen and is held in the app's memory while you decide what to do with it. Choosing a frame makes a framed copy, also in memory. Closing review returns to the camera and keeps the latest capture, including its source image and face landmarks, in app memory so the camera thumbnail can reopen it for review or remix. A later capture replaces it; ending the app process releases that in-memory copy. GoofCam does not keep a persistent photo gallery of its own.
- Save to Photos writes the photo to your device's photo library and nowhere else. On iPhone and iPad, iOS asks for permission to add photos the first time you save; GoofCam never asks to read your library. On Android, photos are saved to the Pictures/GoofCam album through Android's media storage, which needs no photo or storage permission.
- Send to someone opens the system share sheet, and the photo goes only to the app or person you pick. What that app does with it is governed by its own privacy policy. You can share a photo even if you have not allowed GoofCam to save to your library.
- On iPhone and iPad, GoofCam passes an export of the photo to the iOS share sheet. The latest capture can still remain in app memory as described above.
- On Android, sharing writes a temporary copy into GoofCam's private cache so the app you pick can read it; only that app is granted access. Copies older than 24 hours are deleted the next time you share a photo. Android may also clear the cache when storage runs low, and clearing GoofCam's storage or uninstalling the app removes them.
Photos you have saved stay in your photo library until you delete them there; uninstalling GoofCam does not delete them.
What stays on your device
GoofCam remembers a few settings so it opens the way you left it:
- The last lens, camera effect and effect intensity you chose
- The featured looks you marked as favorites and your recent lenses
These are stored in the app's local settings (UserDefaults on iPhone and iPad, SharedPreferences on Android). They never leave the device through GoofCam. On Android, GoofCam's app data is excluded from Google backups and device-to-device transfer. On iPhone and iPad, app settings can be included in a device backup that you make with Apple. Uninstalling GoofCam deletes these settings.
GoofCam Pro purchases
GoofCam is free. GoofCam Pro is an optional one-time in-app purchase made through Apple's App Store or Google Play. Apple or Google processes the payment and tells the app whether your store account owns GoofCam Pro.
- LightPath never receives your payment card details or billing address.
- GoofCam has no account, and LightPath runs no purchase server. Purchase checks and Restore Purchases happen between the app and Apple or Google.
- Apple and Google handle purchase records under their own privacy policies.
Google ML Kit on Android
The Android app includes Google's ML Kit face detection library to find faces on the device. According to Google's ML Kit terms, the processing of input images happens fully on the device, and ML Kit does not send the images or the results to Google's servers.
Google also states that ML Kit may contact Google's servers to receive bug fixes, updated models and hardware compatibility information, and sends Google metrics about how the library performs and is used. Google's ML Kit data disclosure lists device information (such as manufacturer, model and OS version), app package name and version, and a per-installation identifier not intended to uniquely identify a user or physical device. It also lists performance metrics, API configuration (such as image format and resolution), input and output size, feature version, event type, and error codes, used for diagnostics and usage analytics. Google says it encrypts this data in transit and does not transfer it to third parties. LightPath does not receive this data. The current Android app does not declare the INTERNET permission, which restricts direct network connections from the app process. This is not a claim that Google services never communicate: Google Play handles purchases and restores through its own service, and the SDK practices documented above remain part of our prelaunch privacy review. LightPath does not run a purchase server or send camera images or face results over the network.
The iPhone and iPad app contains no third-party code. It uses only Apple's system frameworks, and its privacy manifest declares no collected data and no tracking.
Permissions GoofCam uses
On iPhone and iPad:
- Camera: to show live effects and take photos. Message shown by iOS: "Use your camera to preview effects and take photos."
- Photos (add only): requested when you first tap Save. Message shown by iOS: "Save the photos you choose to your photo library."
On Android:
- Camera: to show live effects and take photos.
- Network state: included by the bundled Google libraries. The app does not declare the INTERNET permission for direct network connections.
- Google Play billing: lets the app ask Google Play about the optional GoofCam Pro purchase.
GoofCam does not request location, contacts, microphone, or permission to read your photo library on either platform.
Children and families
Families use GoofCam together. The app has no account, and LightPath does not receive camera images or face results. Google documents the Android ML Kit diagnostic practices described above; we are still completing the SDK and family-audience review before public release. Parents and guardians should supervise a child's purchases and sharing. If you have a concern, contact us and we will help.
Deleting your data
- Saved photos: delete them in the Photos app on iPhone and iPad, or in your gallery or Google Photos app on Android (album Pictures/GoofCam).
- Settings and favorites: uninstall GoofCam. On Android you can also go to Settings > Apps > GoofCam > Storage & cache and clear storage, which also removes any temporary share copies.
- Purchases: your GoofCam Pro purchase record is held by Apple or Google under your store account, not by LightPath.
Because LightPath holds no personal data from GoofCam, there is nothing for us to export or delete on request, but we are glad to answer questions about it.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy, for example when GoofCam launches or gains a feature. Changes appear on this page with a new date at the top. GoofCam has no account, so we cannot notify you directly.
