Frequently Asked Questions

How does an inspection work?

Start an inspection and take a close-up photo of the problem (required). You can add an optional area-overview shot and, for appliances, an optional photo of the appliance's label. When you run a diagnosis, RepairLens returns a severity level, a plain-English likely cause, an ordered action plan, DIY-vs-pro guidance (including which trade to call), and a broad cost range. You can re-diagnose the same problem anytime.

What do the severity levels mean?

Every diagnosis lands on one of four levels: Cosmetic (looks bad, doesn't hurt anything), Keep an eye on it (watch for change), Address soon (schedule a fix), and Urgent — get help now (stop and bring in qualified help). These are AI-generated estimates, not a professional assessment.

Why did I get an "Urgent — get help now" warning instead of DIY steps?

That's by design. When the AI output identifies a covered gas, electrical, structural, major water or sewage, mold, asbestos, or high-tension garage-door hazard, an app-owned guard forces an urgent warning and professional guidance instead of DIY steps. Recognition is best effort and may miss a hazard. RepairLens is informational only and is not a substitute for a licensed contractor, inspector, electrician, plumber, or other qualified professional; for safety-critical issues, always consult a professional.

Where are my photos and inspection history stored?

On your iPhone, in private app storage: SwiftData records plus local media files. There is no account. Photos, an optional issue note, and a prior summary leave your device only when you tap Diagnose; photo metadata (including GPS location) is stripped first. Google's AI service processes that content solely to generate your result, not to train AI models. LightPath Apps does not store the diagnosis unless you separately submit an optional content report. See the privacy policy for details.

How do I delete my data?

Delete any inspection inside the app to remove it, or uninstall RepairLens to permanently delete all photos and inspection history from your device. Because your data is stored on-device with no account, local deletion is in your hands. For optional content reports, subscription records, or anything else, see our privacy requests page.

What's included free, and what does Pro cost?

The free tier has no app-imposed limit on locally saved inspection reports and includes your first 2 AI-assisted inspections. One is used only after a diagnosis is successfully saved; failed or cancelled analyses do not consume one. RepairLens Pro unlocks unlimited AI diagnoses at $5.99/month or $39.99/year, with a 7-day free trial. The subscription is billed to your Apple ID and auto-renews unless you cancel at least 24 hours before the end of the current period. The App Store always shows the current price before you buy.

How do I restore my Pro purchase or cancel?

To restore, make sure you're signed in to the same Apple ID you subscribed with and use Restore Purchases in the app's settings; there's no RepairLens account, so your entitlement follows your Apple ID. To cancel, open iOS Settings > [your name] > Subscriptions > RepairLens Pro. Refunds are handled by Apple through reportaproblem.apple.com.

The camera isn't working

RepairLens needs camera access to photograph the problem. Open iOS Settings > Privacy & Security > Camera and confirm RepairLens is allowed. If it's already on, toggling it off and back on, or restarting the app, usually clears it up.
