Frequently Asked Questions

Where are my photos and check-ins stored?

Your original photos and local check-in records are stored in MeThen's app container. There is no account or cloud sync, and LightPath keeps no server-side photo archive. On iOS, standard Apple-managed device or iCloud backups may include local app data. On Android, MeThen disables app backup and device transfer. When you start an AI analysis, Google may temporarily retain the request data as described below. LightPath cannot recover your local data. Deleting the app removes its app-container data. On iOS, same-device allowance counters remain in the iOS Keychain to prevent quota resets, and Apple controls retention of any backup copies. On Android, app-private counters are removed with the app.

What actually happens when I tap Analyze?

Before the first analysis, MeThen asks for consent and remembers that grant until you revoke it in Settings. Every photo upload still requires you to tap Analyze. Google Vertex AI (Gemini) receives the selected photos, the current journal note (if any), and a compact prior-result summary (if available); EXIF and GPS data are stripped from photos first. Requests are not used to train AI models. Google may retain request data temporarily for abuse monitoring, service protection, or caching; LightPath does not create a server-side photo archive. The result is saved on your device. Every install includes 2 free AI analyses; MeThen Pro unlocks unlimited analyses.

Where is Deep Compare on Android?

Deep Compare is currently an iOS-only Pro feature and is not included in the current Android release. On iOS, it computes a signed body-fat delta — which way things moved, and roughly how much — from the photos of two check-ins. Because it uploads the prior check-in's photos (downscaled) in addition to the current ones, it asks for its own consent on every single comparison, separate from the regular Analyze consent. EXIF data is stripped before anything is sent.

Why do I get a range instead of an exact number?

Because an exact number from a photo would be a lie. MeThen deliberately reports a broad body-fat range with a confidence level and caveats — a photo can support an honest range, not a decimal point. Every result also carries a non-medical disclaimer: these are visual reads, not measurements. Our wellbeing guide covers how to read them in a healthy way.

Does my profile (height, weight, sex, age) get uploaded?

No. The profile is optional and sharpens estimate ranges locally. MeThen does not send it to LightPath, Google, or RevenueCat, including in analysis, Deep Compare, chat, or report requests. Standard iOS device or iCloud backups may include this local preference data under Apple's controls; Android backup and device transfer are disabled.

How do subscriptions and Restore Purchases work?

MeThen Pro (planned at $5.99/month or $39.99/year) unlocks unlimited AI analyses and follow-up chat without a successful-reply cap, subject to up to 120 actual provider attempts per day. Deep Compare is also included on iOS but is not in the current Android release. Free users receive up to 10 successful follow-up replies per day. Billing is handled by the Apple App Store on iOS or Google Play on Android. A 7-day trial may be available to eligible new subscribers; the store purchase sheet shows the offer that applies. Subscriptions auto-renew until cancelled. On iOS, cancel at least 24 hours before the current period ends. On Google Play, use the renewal date and cancellation details shown in your subscription settings; timing and the effect of cancellation can vary by region. If you reinstall or move to another phone on the same store account, use Restore Purchases inside the app to reactivate Pro. Refunds are handled by Apple or Google under the applicable store's standard process.

Camera or camera-roll import isn't working

Check-ins need camera access, and backdated import needs photo access to the photos you select. On iOS, open Settings, then Privacy & Security > Camera and Privacy & Security > Photos. On Android, open Settings, then Apps > MeThen > Permissionsand allow Camera; imports use the system Photo Picker and do not require broad library access. Pick the progress photos you want and MeThen will let you backdate them onto your timeline.

How do I delete my data?

Deleting the app removes its local photos, check-in history, journal, chat, and profile. LightPath does not keep a photo archive, although Google may temporarily retain AI request data under its service policies. Optional content reports and anonymous RevenueCat subscription records may be held off-device as described in our privacy policy. For those records or anything else (like support emails you've sent us), see our privacy requests page.
